Stillages are an essential part of many organisations’ operations, but are strong, tough and hardwearing metal stillages, cages and pallets expensive?
Reusable and durable, and with a fantastic range of standard and custom options, metal stillages don’t need to be expensive and you’ll get great, long-lasting value from MC&P’s versatile stillage range.
Our handy buyer’s guide explains what makes a great value stillage, how stillages can help your business to save money, and explores MC&P’s stillage range that’s designed, engineered and built to last.
Why are some stillages out there more expensive?
If you’ve been checking out stillages online, you’ll find that some stillages are more expensive than others, even if they look the same.
MC&P designs, engineers, builds and dispatches stillages in-house at our own facility. Our metal stillages, cages and pallets offer fantastic value for money because you’re buying direct from the manufacturer – no middle man, no drop-shipping, no expensive trade catalogue, just quality stillage products built by our team and delivered to your door.
So when you choose to buy stillages from MC&P, you’re saving money when compared to other online retailers.
Are MC&P’s standard stillages expensive?
The cost of a stillage depends on many factors, such as:
- The size of the stillage
- The complexity of the stillage’s design and construction
- The volume of steel used in its construction
- Whether a product contains sheet steel or mesh steel
- Whether the stillage is a LOLER-tested crane lifting stillage
- Whether the stillage is customised with options such as castor wheels, heavy-duty castor wheels or additional forklift guides
MC&P has developed the UK’s biggest range of stillages, cages, pallets and handling products available to buy online. Many of our standard range products can be customised to suit the needs of your organisation, from longer or taller stillages to the addition of forklift guides or castor wheels, making our standard stillage range great value and a great match for your operations.
Fully-bespoke customised stillages may be more expensive to allow for our design time, prototyping if required, and engineering time incurred in building a non-standard stillage.
Why are some stillages cheaper than MC&P’s range?
Each manufacturer designs and builds their stillages differently, but the construction of a stillage generally dictates how expensive that stillage is to buy.
MC&P builds the frame of every stillage using square steel box section for strong, reinforced and hardwearing stillages, cages and pallets that can withstand heavy duty loads and tough handling.
Steel box section lasts longer and is more reliable than the alternative angle steel used by some other manufacturers. Angle steel, or angle iron, features an L-shaped, 2-sided cross section that can limit the structural integrity of a product and is prone to damage due to its open shape, whereas steel box section’s 4-sided structure offers superior strength, rigidity and reliability.
Angle steel is a cheaper material, but MC&P only uses steel box section for our stillages.
Why do we manufacture stillages using more expensive steel box section?
- Steel box section is at least 100% stronger than angle steel
- Stillages manufactured using steel box section can be reliably and safely stacked when loaded due to the strength of the steel box section stillage frames
- Steel box section stillages manufactured by MC&P can withstand the toughest of environments, from construction sites to nuclear, scaffolding, warehousing, logistics and more
- MC&P doesn’t compromise on the quality, safety and durability of our metal stillages, cages and pallets. They may be more expensive than some other stillages out there, but they’ll last longer, carry heavy-duty loads and withstand tough, regular use
