Why LOLER is important for stillages – Crane Lift Stillages Made in Britain
Why LOLER is important for stillages
When you buy and use stillages for safely storing, moving and transporting materials, equipment and tools around your warehouse, factory, construction site or elsewhere for your organisation, how you lift your stillages is a key consideration.
Strong metal stillages by MC&P carry good load capacities, in many cases up to 1000KG, and it’s therefore important to safely lift and handle these heavy duty stillages in line with health and safety regulations that govern your organisation and the equipment you use.
“LOLER” regulations are important for stillages because they specifically address and regulate the safe handling and movement of lifting equipment such as our heavy duty metal stillages.
What is LOLER & why is LOLER important for stillages?
“LOLER” stands for the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations, which contain provisions for the safe use and movement of stillages, as well as any other kind of apparatus used for materials handling and storage.
Two of the most important criteria covered by LOLER stipulate the maximum Safe Working Load for a particular stillage, and the maximum number of identical stillages which can be safely stacked when fully loaded.
MC&P’s stated limits on the use of stillages are the same as the LOLER regulations: a maximum load weight of 1000KG, and a safe stackable height of up to four stillages. The design and construction of our stillages and post pallets are specifically geared to meeting these criteria.
LOLER is important for stillages because the guidelines are intended to prevent stillages from being overloaded, potentially causing undue danger to people on site, or using equipment such as a forklift truck, HIAB or telehandler which are commonly used to move stillages around a workplace or working area.
LOLER is also important to the manufacture of stillages as the regulations also govern the safe use of crane liftable stillages. MC&P manufactures and supplies a popular range of LOLER-tested crane lifting stillages, including various sizes of A-frame trolley and stillage which are widely used in the building and glazing industries for storing glass panels and other large sheet materials.
